Secrets to achieving your goals!
If you want to be successful in whatever you do, always write own your goals. If you do not have goals, then you are destined to live your life by other people’s agendas or just living it to chance.
Let’s say you decide to go on a trip.
You leave home early. You begin to enjoy a scenic drive, with the hustle and bustle of the the city a distant memory as you leave the choked freeway and drive into the countryside.
You come to an intersection you have never seen before and you realize you have left your map at home.
It doesn’t matter you tell yourself . You vaguely know where you are going.
Or do you?
An hour later you are hopelessly lost and regret leaving home.
Do you treat goal setting in the same way?
You are not alone, most people do.
“People with clear written goals, accomplish far more in a shorter period of time that people without them could ever imagine”
Yup. Read it again. Written goals help crystalise the MUST HAVES in your mind.
The magic that happens through written goal setting has not been experienced by most people.
So they simply don’t bother to do it. They can’t see what is in it for them.
So go ahead… write down your personal goals. As an example, you can list them under 4 broad headings.
- MATERIAL GOALS (Finance and possessions)
- ACTIVITIES (Activities and Events that provide inspiration)
- SELF DEVELOPMENT (Ways to develop your highest potential)
- RELATIONSHIPS
Successful goal setting involves a lot of introspection and self knowledge. But it is worth it.You gain great self knowledge as well as clarifying goals.
Consider the below:
Are you happy with where you are?
Are you wiling to take responsibility for the level of participation you show in all areas of your life?
Is your self image one that is comfortable to live with?
Do you prepare to reach your goals?
Begin writing or reviewing your goals today.
Points to Keep in Mind When Setting Your Goals
- Be specific and clear that it is what you really want to achieve. (Not lose weight but lose 5kg)
- Be sure you can measure them. (Not earn more but earn $550 per week)
- Set a time frame.(by December 2008)
- Write stepping stones to reach as you head towards the goal. (Week one lose 500grams)
- Write them down more than once. Review them daily.
- Post them around your house or on your work area so they are always visible. Make visual representations if possible.
Do not forget to visualize your goals. It involves picturing the final outcome you desire.
Visualization enhances motivation, direction and commitment.
It has become common knowledge that we attract into our lives what we think about the most, believe in without hesitation and expect to occur and visualize clearly.
Writing down and reviewing goals regularly is how you can get all you want from life.
Don’t underestimate it!
